LETTER: Stop the hypocrisy shown by Free Tibet

I chuckled at the delicious irony of your lead story about the Free Tibet Campaign threatening to demonstrate against any PR consultancy that might choose to represent the Chinese government (News, 11 April).

While I could never represent despotic regimes such as those of China, Burma, North Korea or Zimbabwe, I believe they have a right to be represented in the court of public opinion. Just like any criminal accused of a crime, these regimes must be allowed representation and counsel.

By threatening any consultancy that chooses to work for the Chinese government, the Free Tibet Campaign demonstrates a mean streak of despotic absolutism - the very quality it attributes to Beijing.

Perhaps PRWeek could organise a demonstration by its readers outside the offices of the Free Tibet Campaign, in the interests of safeguarding freedom of speech.
