Diary: Brentwood MP gets himself in a pickle

Like Alexander, some high-profile politicians can't stay out of the headlines. Others actively try to gain the spotlight more than their status perhaps deserves (step forward Mr L Opik).

One such example is the MP for Brentwood and Ongar, Eric Pickles, who has been spamming Diary's inbox like a spotty Estonian ne'er-do-well. Last Sunday, as others tucked into their roast dinner, Pickles' PR company, The Target Group, was sending regular updates of his work:

5:21pm: Pickles briefed on problems of raising the school-leaving age.

5:23pm: Pickles asks the Learning and Skills Council why there is no cash left for students.

5:25pm: Pickles asks 'are there too many exams for students?'.

The releases did contain different embargo dates, but Diary got very bored with them and can't wait for the one reading:

11:24pm: Pickles stops working and goes to bed.
