LETTER: We will never let the French know that

The poor French, eh? I was interested and amused to read in PRWeek that, despite the Diana-style coverage of the Sarkozy trip, we Brits are still just as frosty towards the French as ever (News, 4 April).

But come on - the Brits are never going to admit to liking the French are they?

From a PR point of view their visit was handled impeccably. I suspect that many people in the UK were taken in by Nicolas Sarkozy and his glamorous wife, but won't freely admit it. But you can be sure our garlic-loving neighbours feel the same way about us.

Secretly we love each other but no side will admit it. It is good to see our press being more grown up-than the French by giving the Sarkozys such great coverage on their trip. Would the French media extend the same courtesy were it the other way round? I doubt it.
