Switch of councils for Haringey chief

Haringey Council has snared the former head of comms at neighbouring Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

Mike Browne joined Haringey last week as head of comms and consultation, overseeing media relations, marketing, design and print, translation, and managing a team of 25. He reports to assistant chief executive Sharon Kemp.

Browne is the newly elected chair of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations local government group. He has recently spent time freelancing, in particular handling consultancy work on behalf of the Audit Commission on plans for Comprehensive Area Assessments (CAA). Browne has also been head of comms at Bedfordshire County Council.

He said a key focus in the role will be 'working with our partners to communicate our work to improve the quality of life for local people as we head towards CAA'.

A recent pan-London survey by London Councils showed that 74 per cent of Haringey residents feel that the council keeps them well-informed, 10 per cent higher than the London average.
