BMA seeks help for anti-GP press

The British Medical Association (BMA) is in talks with agencies as it considers running a PR campaign to counteract what it sees as anti-GP sentiment in the press.

The BMA believes the Government has been privately briefing against GPs. It is talking to a range of agencies to see 'how they would face the challenge'. If the campaign is given the go-ahead, it will begin in May.

BMA head of comms Brian Butler said: 'I am confident we will be doing something as there is such a strength of feeling about this.'

The Department of Health (DoH) has responded by saying that any suggestion that the DoH is responsible for anti-GP spin is 'nonsense'.
