DIARY: No cash in brown envelope for Opik

Avid readers of Diary will recall last week's note about colourful Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik.

Opik, PRWeek discovered, has worked in the past for public affairs agency Luther Pendragon in a staff training capacity.

In the piece, Diary told how the MP, famous for squiring a Cheeky Girl, had been paid in cash by the agency for his help.

Luther partner Mike Granatt sent a letter to clarify: 'Sir, last week Diary claimed that Luther paid Lembit Opik MP "in cash" for training some of our junior staff. Actually, he submitted an invoice and was paid by cheque like every other supplier.'

So, Opik was not paid in a brown envelope by a man with dark glasses. Just in case you were wondering.
