LETTER: We all need to use PC language

Following the discussion at the Fundraising, PR and Communications Excellence Conference (News, 21 March), organisations can be categorised as being PC, but this fails to reflect why charities attempt to outlaw certain phrases.

Phrases such as 'mentally handicapped' are insulting to people with a learning disability. It may not bother the average person, but it does offend people with a learning disability.

We know it does no good to fight every time a person uses an archaic phrase, but it is important to help them understand why they should use the correct language.
