The council's marketing and comms unit has set up a range of dedicated intranet pages that will follow the progress of employees taking part in the BUPA Manchester 10K Run held in May.
A personal blog by a member of the team allows access to an 'online diary' where staff can keep track of the highs and lows of training for the event.
A range of additional links are aimed at employees not taking part in the race.
They show these employees how to improve their fitness as well as providing information on nutrition, giving up smoking and personal training plans.
The council wants to encourage a philosophy of health and fitness throughout its workforce of 10,000.
Head of marketing and comms Ian Ratcliffe said: 'Our aim is to encourage and inspire staff to get more information on keeping fit and eating healthily.'
