Manchester's 'Media City' development has called in one of the region's best known PROs as it strives to appeal to businesses other than the BBC.

Communique founder Paul Carroll has been hired by Peel Media, part of project developer Peel Holdings, for a six-month project. The PR stalwart currently runs his own consultancy Zuma 011.

Carroll said he would be promoting the Salford-based development as 'a media and creative hub', and more than just an office base for the BBC.

The BBC confirmed in May last year that it would be relocating five departments from London to the 200-acre development. The 1,500 London staff will be joined by 800 employees currently based at the BBC site on Oxford Road in Manchester. The BBC buildings are part of phase one of the development and are scheduled for completion by 2011.

The overall development includes the BBC buildings, a waterfront piazza, 535,000 sq ft of office space, 224,000 sq ft of broadcast studios, a hotel and retail space.
