LETTER: Byrne is spot on over need for diversity ..

As a young British Indian (albeit with a strong Geordie accent) working in the PR industry, I was delighted to read Colin Byrne's column last week.

He is absolutely spot-on: we work in a fantastic industry that cuts across all races and social backgrounds, but ironically, PR itself is not a sector that brims with diversity.

From my own experience, much will be down to cultural differences. For instance, there are generally expectations for young Asians to aspire to become say a doctor (my fiance), a lawyer (my brother) or an accountant (most of my family.).

In that sense, I hope I am breaking the mould at Cool Blue. A huge influx of ethnic minorities into the industry will not happen overnight, but if we all continue to position the industry alongside these other highly regarded professions, others will follow suit.
