David MacDonald left Orange last month. It is understood he has not started his new comms role at L'Oreal.
He worked on a number of high profile campaigns at the mobile phone company, including the 2004 Band Aid Trust 'Feed the World' tie-in.
MacDonald worked with agencies at Hotwire before moving in-house. His consumer tech clients at the London outfit included TomTom, the GPS service.
Industry insiders said the move was not wholly unusual. 'It is one consumer brand to another consumer brand; it does not make a difference whether it is tech or not,' said the MD of a tech agency.
L'Oreal recently handed a six-figure brief to Cow to build its ethical brand credentials (PRWeek, 11 January).
