Nature body in comms rejig

The body charged with enhancing England's biodiversity, landscapes and wildlife is to overhaul its comms operation.

Natural England will add 12 members to its existing comms team at central and local levels, overseen by executive director of external affairs Guy Thompson.

The 18-month-old organisation was formed by bringing together English Nature, the landscape, access and recreation elements of the Countryside Agency and the environmental land management functions of the Rural Development Service.

It is seeking London-based media relations and internal comms managers and lobbyists, plus regional senior comms specialists based in Newcastle, Nottingham and Guildford.

The revamp follows a review that found Natural England's comms team needed to be overhauled in order to handle ongoing campaigns. It will also bring in an agency, but not for another year.

This week, Natural England launched a campaign to 'put nature within 300 metres of every person in England'.
