Boost for CSR as recession looms

An NGO that advises some of the world's biggest companies on CSR reporting has enlisted agency support, as an economic slowdown threatens to test firms' commitment to CSR.

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) provides guidance on sustainability reporting to businesses, including approximately half of FTSE 100 companies. It is striving to become the de facto standard for corporate reporting on social and environmental matters.

The Ledbury Group will promote the brand in the UK as boards reconsider how CSR fits into their spending plans ahead of a possible recession.

Ledbury will also promote the GRI global conference, to be held in Amsterdam in May, with speakers including the chairman of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change RK Pachauri.
