CNBC brings on Braben

Business channel CNBC has hired media specialist Braben to build the channel's profile in the UK.

CNBC Europe VP of marcoms Charlotte Blenkinsop said the UK was ‘at the heart of the global financial community', adding: ‘Our objective is to be seen as the must-watch channel for anyone who has an interest in the business issues of the day.'

The brief includes encouraging UK business leaders to take part in programming and highlighting the channel's new lifestyle programming.

Brunswick and Mantra also took part in the competitive pitch (PRWeek 19 January 2008 ).

This is the first time the channel has retained a UK agency, although it has worked with Edelman on a pro bono basis.

Edelman and CNBC struck a unique contra deal in 2004, when the PR company was given an advertising slot in exchange for media relations advice (PRWeek, 20 August 2004 ).
