So it was a surprise when I overheard an exchange that one of my colleagues had with a taxi driver. On hearing that the colleague worked in PR the cabbie commented: 'Oh, PR is full of women who moan about everything all the time.'
If the cab driver's comments are indicative of a changing view of PR from party people to a dissatisfied workforce, then the next perception challenge that the industry faces will not be resolved by looking to industry bodies such as the CIPR or the PRCA. The onus is on employers to improve the experience we give to our PROs.
It is only through improving conditions that we will attract the best people and continue to be a successful industry.
