Diary: Hit or Miss... Losing face

The Archbishop of Canterbury contrived a storm of almost biblical proportions when he suggested Sharia law should be introduced in some form in the UK. Thousands wrote into the BBC website within an hour to condemn the speech. Later, Dr Williams appeared to blame the media, arguing that 'some of what has been heard is a long way from what was said'. But he admitted he 'must take responsibility for any unclarity... and for any misleading choice of words'. Ian Monk, p18.
