Oink is the only business newspaper for kids. We like to think of it as a junior Financial Times. It is monthly and has been running for five years.
WHERE IS IT DISTRIBUTED?
It is distributed for free to schools, libraries and sports clubs. Increasingly we are now being stocked in high-profile hotels and business lobbies. We have a readership of more than 300,000.
IS IT JUST THE NEWSPAPER?
No, we also have a radio show that we broadcast on www.oinkonair.com, and we run a popular online stock exchange for kids at www.fantasystockexchange.biz. Children are able to win prizes depending on how much money they have at the end of the three-month trading periods.
WHO IS YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE?
Our readers are seven- to 12-year-olds, but the fantasy stock exchange audience are seven- to 16-year-olds. Parents and grandparents also see the newspaper through their children. Some brands have already cottoned on to that - Oink is a good way to reach high-net individuals.
WHAT TOPICS DO YOU DISCUSS?
Our editorial discusses money matters. So we cover showbiz, but from a business perspective. We have a wide range of celebrity interviews including Prince William and Britney Spears, but with a money slant. For example we interviewed Natasha Bedingfield and focused on how her music tours were organised.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE THERE FOR PROs?
We cover medicine, health and food. Any socio-economic issue that will affect kids' lives will be something we will use.
