Healthcare: Axon eyes up global business with new hire

Axon Communications has appointed a former Ruder Finn director to spearhead a global drive for new business.

Laura Aplin will work with the agency's PR and medical comms teams to strengthen the healthcare shop's integrated comms approach.

Aplin has been appointed to the role after covering maternity leave at the agency. Her previous experience includes an eight-year stint at Ruder Finn as director, overseeing its international and domestic business at the agency's New York and London offices.

Her appointment is part of an expansion plan that the agency says has been driven by a series of significant account wins in the areas of HIV, men's sexual health and oncology. Aplin will be working on the agency's accounts with AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

Axon has also promoted Emma Kenny from within the agency's medical comms and clinical research consulting wing to head up the team. She replaces Ruth Slater, who led the division for three years and has been promoted to business strategy director.
