DIARY: Let's meet at... Pescatori

Reviewed by Lisa Pantelli, consultant, Mantra PR.

If you have a passion for fine fish and a love of Mediterranean cuisine, Pescatori on Dover Street is one to try. The Mayfair branch of this restaurant automatically strikes you as being one of the friendliest in town from the minute you walk through the door.

In true Mediterranean style, service can be a little on the slow side, but you don't mind that so much as it's in keeping with the ambience. Clients and journalists will love it for its informality, fresh and beautifully presented food, and staff who can't do enough for you while they switch easily between speaking Italian and English.

The menu changes regularly, but it is guaranteed to put you in the difficult situation of desperately trying to narrow down your options by eyeing the food on the tables next to you. The fish, bought daily from Billingsgate, is cooked to perfection. I'd recommend the smoked salmon on rosti potato cake and horseradish sauce to start, followed by pan-fried fillet of sea bass with baby asparagus and a light lemon sauce. Staff are on hand to make recommendations on food and wine.

There is nothing pretentious about Pescatori and you truly do relax over lunch. I strongly recommend booking a table, as it does get quite busy. A little on the costly side, especially if you include wine, but it's worth paying a little bit more for good quality fish.
