DIARY: Boards do wonders for footie defence

The canny folk at the UK HQ of Craigslist - the online noticeboard that sells everything from cars to half-eaten KFCs - have come up with a clever new way to get their brand a little more exposure.

Sponsoring a women's football team is a fairly basic way to get yourself noticed. True, but Battersea WFC of the London & SE Regional Women's Football League have to wear full-sized sandwich boards promoting the website as part of the deal.

'Yes, some of the players find the sandwich boards unwieldy,' admits Veena Joory, club secretary of Battersea WFC. 'But on the plus side, the boards did wonders for our defensive walls at free kicks.'
