Julian Payne will take up the role in mid March, replacing Jane Fletcher who resigned over the Crowngate affair.

Before joining Henry's House in 2006, Payne worked at the BBC for four years, heading publicity for Radio 1 and EastEnders

Payne left the BBC just after having been appointed to head publicity for BBC3, to join Henry's House as its fourth director handling television and entertainment clients.

The new job is one of the highest-profile PR roles within the BBC, overseeing all output on flagship network BBC1 as well as TV drama programmes across all the corporation's channel.

Previous BBC1 head of press Fletcher resigned in October alongside BBC1 controller Peter Fincham, after the BBC inadvertently screened footage of a new royal series to journalists at a BBC1 season launch that claimed to show the Queen storming out of a photoshoot when in fact she was walking in.
