Medicom account director becomes new MD

Surrey-based health PR specialist Medicom has appointed former account director Gaynor Hayburn as its new MD.

Hayburn takes the reins from founder and chairman Martin Ellis. She has risen rapidly through the ranks since joining Medicom in 2003 as an account director.

She was promoted to deputy MD in 2006 (PRWeek, 31 August 2006). Before joining Medicom, she worked for sister company MediTech Media and Educational Communications.

Hayburn will concentrate on building integrated business across the agency's PR and medical education division Medicom and design department Medibrand.

The deputy MD role will not be filled, but associate directors Sarah Merritt and Sue Walkley have been promoted to directors and will take on some of Hayburn's previous responsibilities.

Ellis will remain chairman of Medicom's four divisions: Medicom, Medibrand, market research department Medipoll and political lobbying group Medigy.

Sharmila Blows has been hired as an account manager.
