The agency was appointed to the account following a four-way pitch. It has won the business from Munro & Forster.
The brief is understood to include a UK-wide programme of media relations and educational activity to support the company’s portfolio of contraceptive brands. These include Organon’s implant contraceptive drug Implanon and its progesterone-only product Cerazette.
Virgo will also provide comms support for product launches scheduled for 2008. The agency may also be called on to spearhead a campaign to promote other contraceptive options for women other than the pill.
Virgo confirmed it had won the business following a competitive pitch and said the work would be headed up by Virgo deputy MD Caroline Gosling.
The appointment follows last month’s announcement that pharmaceutical company Schering-Plough Corporation has acquired Organon BioSciences.
