IRN – which supplies news to more than 250 commercial radio stations – has launched a service called Content Extra, which will sit alongside its usual news feeds.
IRN provides radio stations with regular feeds of audio, scripts and cue sheets on the latest news stories as they break.
This information appears instantaneously on a dedicated newsroom screen. Press releases will now also appear down the right-hand-side of the screen for up to two weeks.
The news service will provide radio journalists and programme controllers with additional promotional news and feature content, providing an alternative to sourcing their own stories.
IRN’s business development director Tim Molloy said: ‘For our client radio stations, it means IRN is now delivering more content, allowing them to easily add exciting new elements to their programming.’
He claimed the service would help stations to pick up on stories that may not be on the IRN news agenda or provide a light-hearted story for a news bulletin.
IRN supplies news to radio stations including Capital Radio, Magic FM and Capital Gold. It reaches a combined audience of 24 million listeners. It also produces and distributes three commercial chart shows – Hit 40 UK, ‘A’ list and Fresh 40.
