Nigel Campbell will lead the comms function at the public sector outfit, promoting design’s role both in encouraging sustainability and building the economy.
The body will boost its green credentials with initiatives such as its recent Design of the Time programme, which saw designers and local communities in the northeast create models for sustainable living.
Prior to joining Greenpeace, Campbell worked as a regional current affairs producer for BBC Radio.
He also worked at Weber Shandwick, most recently as corporate account director for the agency’s broadcast division.
The Design Council this week published research on the role of design for successful global brands including Starbucks, Sony and Yahoo. The study looked into how these companies use design to stay competitive.
