‘There is a lot of superficiality in the CSR/PR industry,’ says Brendan May, managing director of Planet 2050 – Weber Shandwick’s corporate responsibility and sustainability practice – in this week’s video podcast.
May responds to International Business Leaders Forum’s MD Adrian Hodges’ warnings earlier this month (PRWeek, 9 November) against a ‘me-too’ mentality among companies regarding CSR campaigns.
May warns: ‘By and large if CSR initiatives are only marketing or PR-led they quite quickly unravel. There has to be real substance and genuine intent behind them.’
