Walsall aims for marketing focus

Walsall Borough Council has appointed a new head of communications.

Darren Caveney joins the council from Sandwell Borough Council, where he was head of comms for six years.

Caveney is overseeing a comms team of five, which he plans to expand in the near future. He said: ‘I’m focusing on how we best promote services to customers and I’m looking to introduce a more marketing-led approach.

There is quite a big internal comms job to be done – and also a role in promoting the borough.’

Caveney, 40, is a graduate in public relations with 12 years’ marketing and comms experience. He replaces an interim head of comms. The last permanent head at Walsall was Phil Challenor.

Before Sandwell, Caveney worked in the comms team at Severn Trent Water.
