NUJ concern over press standards

The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed alarm over the extent to which press releases are being relied upon by reporters.

NUJ general secretary Jeremy Dear speaks out on the issue in a podcast recorded for PRWeek.

However, his comments have met with opposition from some in the PR industry. Braben chief executive Sarah Locke questioned the suggestion that editorial standards had slipped: ‘If press releases are copied verbatim, it might be a case of lazy journalism, but it might also be that the press release is well informed and well written.’
