Clegg prepares for Lib Dem leadership

Liberal Democrat leadership favourite Nick Clegg has assembled a crack team of PR and public affairs professionals to aid him in his quest to succeed Menzies Campbell.

The Clegg PR operation is being headed by Justine McGuiness, the former press chief for the family of missing Madeleine McCann.

Also helping out with the campaign are KPMG public affairs partner Neil Sherlock, Hanover Communications director James Gurling, ex-Charles Kennedy press adviser Liz Peplow and British Wind Energy Association comms director Charles Anglin.

McGuiness told PRWeek it was a ‘star-studded cast’, adding that she wanted to convey Clegg’s ‘sense of ambition for the Liberal Democrats’.

Clegg’s rival Chris Huhne has seasoned lobbyists Anne Werrin and Dick Newby on his media team. Meanwhile, Campbell’s senior media spokesperson Mark Webster resigned this week.
