Merton recruits to bolster team

Merton Council has hired an ex-Sky News journalist and two agency PROs as it completes a year-long overhaul of its PR operation.

The south west London borough has taken on Bronwen Pickering from Ideas PR; Emma Henderson from voluntary and public sector agency Amazon PR; and Brooke Baldwin from Sky News. They replace a team of temporary agency staff.

The appointments are the final part of a £42,000 restructuring of Merton’s comms department.

Merton head of comms Robin Campbell said the new comms officers would focus on maintaining regional and national PR, and pushing out messages about Merton’s green credentials.

They will report to comms manager Sophie Poole as part of an eight-strong team.
