NICE calls for clarity from PROs

Healthcare PROs were urged to be clearer in their dealings with journalists at a workshop run by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

‘Putting the NICE process under the microscope’ was presided over by the health watchdog’s comms director Louise Fish. It focused on NICE’s current role and what its future remit will be.

‘PROs can help journalists by being clear about whether they are talking about draft or final guidance from NICE when briefing them,’ said Fish. ‘This ensures that patients, carers and health professionals are clear whether a drug or treatment has been recommended for use.’

The event was organised by specialist healthcare PR agency Packer Forbes Communications.
