IN HOUSE The BBC is to spread the head of press role for BBC1 across the heads of press for other channels after Jane Fletcher resigned last week. Until an interim replacement is announced, Fletcher’s job will be covered by BBC2’s Laura Dumbrell, BBC3’s Tessa Matchett and Kate Toft, and BBC4’s Emma D’Almeida.

CORPORATE Barclaycard has promoted senior PR manager James Cooke to head of PR. Cooke replaces Ian Barber who left last month to join Good Relations as a director in the corporate team.

AGENCY Fleishman-Hillard has appointed former McDonald’s Europe chief of staff Karen van Bergan as senior vice president and regional director for Central Europe.

CONSUMER Olive oil market leader Filippo Berio has hired Storm Communications to handle a UK consumer brief after a three-way pitch. Storm plans a campaign in the food and women’s lifestyle press.

AGENCY Weber Shandwick has opened an office in Leeds, its ninth in the UK and Ireland, led by former London director Sally Evans. It will work on existing Leeds-based accounts.

CONSUMER World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is looking for PR agencies in Germany, Spain and France by the beginning of the new calendar year. WWE works with Outside Organisation across the UK and MN Gruppo Mediante in Italy.

CONSUMER Voice PR has been appointed to support the launch of super-premium vodka brand Akvinta in the UK. The brand is distributed by Wine & Spirit International.

CORPORATE The Association of Independent Financial Advisors has brought in Tracy Elwick as director of PR and marketing. She was previously group marketing manager for insurance firm Pet Protect, part of Domestic & General.

CONSUMER Sandwich bar chain O’Brien’s has appointed Samphire PR for its UK trade, corporate and business media relations. Samphire will also run a year-long consumer campaign across all UK stores.
