The planned activity, one of Amnesty’s lead campaigns throughout 2008, will ask people to reject what the NGO sees as the ‘false choice’ between terrorism and human rights abuse.
‘Unsubscribe’ will be disseminated mainly online as well as on billboard posters, to reach those untouched by traditional media.
The NGO has also produced a hard-hitting viral film called ‘Waiting for the Guards’, which will be released on YouTube. The two-minute film shows the suffering of a hooded prisoner during a re-creation of a ‘stress and duress’ torture.
Amnesty International UK press officer Neil Durkin said: ‘We want to attract people who are keen to take part in human rights activism but who want a campaign that suits them, and they tend to spend a lot of time online.’
