LGDC to review comms strategy

The chair of the recently formed Local Government Delivery Council (LGDC) has said it will need to ‘think very clearly’ about its communications strategy to ensure it has ‘real legitimacy’.

Tameside MBC chief executive and LGDC chair Janet Callender said the council, whose function is to improve efficiencies between local and central government, should not operate behind closed doors. But she admitted that there could be challenges in communicating a new UK-wide efficiency and service delivery team.

The LGDC is in the process of developing a more detailed communications plan to help the organisation engage effectively with local authorities. This will be discussed with the members of the LGDC at the next meeting in November.

In the meantime, the LGDC has spoken at a number of national and regional events to introduce the concept of the LGDC and outline its objectives.
