WS consumer director Fenella Grey will move across to manage Freud’s new client Asda, while WS head of strategy for UK and Europe Lisa Story joins as director of strategy.
Grey was director of WS’s London consumer division and also headed the agency’s specialist over-50 ‘Baby Boomer’ marketing division called 050: A Fresh Perspective.
Grey was unavailable for comment, but is understood to have already left WS.
Freud director (film and entertainment) Nicola Howson said that Grey’s hire was ‘evidence of the further growth of our consumer brand practice with major account wins like Asda.’
Freud’s Asda account, which was picked up last month, is worth £3m.
Grey previously worked at Charles Barker, which was sold to BSMG and then merged into WS. At WS she worked on ExxonMobil, Unilever, Siemens Mobile and Saga Holidays.
Howson said Story would run the company’s existing strategic planning and insight unit. She is the first board-level hire in that area.
Freud Communications recently acquired advertising agency DFGW (PRWeek, 17 May 2007). At WS, Story was responsible for overseeing global planning systems, including working with marketing sister agencies to improve integration.
A WS spokeswoman said that the agency was talking to several possible replacements for Grey, and said it had recently hired senior corporate account director Adam Murray from Freud.
