The Sheffield-based agency will handle campaigns around a number of launch stages for the new site, called The Civic, which will house offices, studios, shops and a theatre, as well as acting as a networking hub.
The first stage is scheduled to take place later this year and focuses on the opening of a council information centre. PR activity includes general media relations as well as targeting specialist media for creative and arts professionals.
The launch of The Civic is part of a £380m regeneration project to transform Barnsley that is being managed by the Barnsley Development Agency, a partnership involving the council and Barnsley Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Freshwater Northern’s team, headed by MD Kath Harding, was appointed following a three-way pitch.
