Lewington stumps up for sunny Spain

On a more charitable note, 'Gregor's Gathering', a fundraising bash held in memory of Gregor Mackay (a Hanover director who died two years ago) - saw some interesting bidding at its charity auction.

The evening was attended by 360 people attracted partially by auction prizes on offer including trips to Australia, Rome and Paris.

Hanover boss Charles Lewington was MC, taking an evening off from fielding McCann-related calls (News, p3).

He was also ready to splash the cash. Despite being thwarted on a number of hotly contested prizes, he successfully beat a bevy of bidders and scooped a trip to La Manga, which is handily close to Portugal.

The raffle and auctions collectively raised £105,000.
