Letter - Responsibility is the real issue here

Michael Bennett's scaremongering around outsourcing (Letters, 14 September) encourages a naive view of why companies such as Mattel choose to manufacture overseas, and holds the wrong party responsible for the PR problems the company is facing.

His 'Best of British' catch-cry ignores the fact the outsourcing is not about shifting responsibility. Responsibility for the production, product or service always remains with the organisations - and organisations that think otherwise will suffer the consequences.

There have been many instances where Western European companies have compromised on standards in emerging countries. The majority of global companies now manufacture in China. Mattel's case is specific to one company.

The fact that the process has not been managed is the issue here.
