Its comms officer Georgina Vincent left two weeks ago. This followed the departure in June of head of comms David Reid, who headed the two-strong team.
Geraldine Oliver, head of information, said: ‘We are focusing on other projects at the moment that do not require PR. But we do need communications and we will be looking into the best way to deliver our ideas over the next two months.'
Meanwhile, Reid has just joined Living Coasts as its first marketing and communications manager.
In his new role he will be in charge of all communications for the aquatic conservation project, which is part of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust in Devon.
Reid is tasked with building up a strong brand for the zoo, which is part of a larger drive to become more independent of its sister Paignton Zoo. It wants to gain the support of the local community by promoting itself as more than just a visitor attraction.
‘We want to change perceptions that the zoo is just a tourist attraction,’ said Reid.
‘There is a great deal of investment that is currently going into the project to develop new exhibits and we want the local community to see this project as a great local cause.’
