Not that Diary is accusing the PRCA of making things up, but the above exercise brought to mind a howitzer of a survey that was released by the Consultants Association last week.

Space was cleared on the front page when PRWeek was informed 'the number of PR consultancies looking to recruit graduates this year has dropped to 29 per cent from 52 per cent'.

Calls were made to the great thinkers of the industry, who promptly detailed a number of insightful and entirely plausible reasons why this incredible drop-off might be.

A few hours passed before an embarrassed PRCA staffer admitted that a mistake in interpreting the results meant that there had actually been no drop-off at all.

A shame, it would have made a good story.
