On 22 May 1986, as a young (long-haired) PR for Polydor Records, I accompanied The Cure on board the Orient-Express to Venice where they, err, became the first band ever to play a gig aboard the Orient Express - for the Old Grey Whistle Test.
Sadly for me, even in the heyday of the music industry, budgets didn't stretch far, and while the band and camera crew journeyed on to Venice, I was deposited at Ashford Station at 2am where I slept on a bench until the first train back to London. Those were the days!
