Mistral ‘stunts' to reveal waste body's expertise

The Government has han­ded Mistral a £100,000-plus brief to get media coverage for sustainability initiative Envirowise.

Mistral has a remit to deliver three major stunts that highlight Envirowise and its spokespeople as
‘the authoritative source of advice and support to UK businesses on environmental issues in an increasingly crowded marketplace’.

Envirowise is an offshoot of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. It helps businesses save money by cutting waste.

Enviro­wise has become known for its headline-grabbing stunts. In 2005 the group built a 35ft model plane out of scrap paper to illustrate how much the average office worker uses each month.

Mistral director Victoria Cross heads the account, reporting to Envirowise media and comms manager John-Paul Warner.

Warner joined two months ago from market research agency Millward Brown, where he was marketing and comms manager, replacing Maia Vassileva, who left to take a career break after five years in the role.

Some 120 consultancies submitted expressions of interest for the tender. Seven were invited to pitch. Tri­media Harrison Cowley will still manage the regional and sector PR campaigns, having previously handled the entire Envirowise remit.

This month Envirowise launched a package to help building companies cut waste – potentially saving more than £100m. A practical guide to site waste management plans has also been launched, to be followed by an interactive toolkit and regional workshops.
