The RSPCA is launching a campaign to fight pet obesity, using media appearances to drive owners to a new website.

Blue Peter vet and former star of Vets in Practice Joe Inglis has been brought on board for the push, which suggests many of Britain’s dogs and cats are now overweight.

The RSPCA wants owners to visit the website petsgetslim.co.uk, where users can share ideas on how to help pets lose weight.

‘We know that diets are tough when you’ve got a pet begging for treats,’ said Inglis. ‘By using the site, pet owners can share their experiences with other owners to motivate each other to stick  with the diet.’

The charity has arranged coverage with GMTV, and is beginning a roadshow to take the message around the country. Visitors can have their cat or dog weighed, discover their ideal weight and pick up a Pets Get Slim goody bag.
