Sutton to run WS in Asia-Pacific

Weber Shandwick’s European chief Tim Sutton is set to become the company’s first Asia-Pacific chairman.

Sutton will move to Hong Kong by October, leaving UK and Ireland CEO Colin Byrne and Continental European Operations CEO Rolf Olsen jointly in charge of the European operations.

‘I am happy to go, particularly as I leave Europe under the strong management of Byrne and Olsen,’ said Sutton. ‘Everyone is quite rightly paying huge attention to Asia-Pacific. We expect major growth, not only in China but also in India, the traditional financial centres of Hong Kong and Singapore, as well as Australia.’

Sutton, formerly chairman of BSMG Europe, joined WS almost four years ago as European chairman. He is also chairman of parent company Interpublic Group’s entire non-advertising operation, the ‘constituency management group’. However, it is understood WS Global CEO Harris Diamond does not intend to appoint a replacement for this role.

WS Asia-Pacific president Andrew Pirie is to relocate to New Zealand at the end of the year. Sutton said he would consider whether or not to replace him.
