COI appoints for top comms job

The former director of comms for the Food Standards Agency, Neil Martinson, has landed the top comms role at the Central Office of Information (COI).

Martinson will take the beefed up board-level post of director of news and PR at the government procurement agency. He effectively takes over from director of the Government News Network, and Whitehall stalwart, Rob Haslam, who is to retire at the end of the year after 40 years’ service.

‘The post has been created to formalise the merging of the COI’s PR operation with its regional news network,’ said Haslam.

Martinson will take up the new job in October, reporting to the body’s CEO Alan Bishop.
