BA boss blames ex-comms head

BA boss Willie Walsh has pointed the finger at his former comms chief as the Office of Fair Trading and the US Department of Justice continue to investigate allegations of price fixing.

In a statement sent out to the world’s media, he said a ‘very limited number of individuals within British Airways’ were responsible for price-fixing phone calls that this week led to BA being hit with a record £270m fine.

Insiders were in no doubt who he was referring to. Iain Burns resigned as head of comms following last year’s probe, along with the commercial director.

Iain Burns, now VP corp comms at Etihad, was unavailable for comment as PRWeek went to press.
