Sovereign seeks business in Gulf

Sovereign Strategy has signalled its intention to extend its reach in the Gulf, signing up a former comms chief from the Dubai Financial Services Authority.

The agency has brought in John Gilchrist as associate director, reporting to agency MD Rory O’Neill. Gilchrist will be based in Dubai and spearhead the agency’s drive for new business in the region.

Sovereign is currently retained by The Bukhamseen Group, one of the most powerful families in Kuwait and part-owner of the Egyptian Gulf Bank in Cairo.

O’Neill said: ‘We’re about to convert a lot more new business in the Gulf.’

Gilchrist joined earlier this month, having previously been director of comms and strategic planning at the Dubai Financial Services Authority. Before that, he was a corporate planner at the London Stock Exchange.

Sovereign is headed by executive chairman and former Labour MEP Alan Donnelly. Earlier this year, the agency pledged to end its practice of paying MPs and peers.
