St Leger Homes of Doncaster is gearing up for a £300m scheme to improve 22,000 council homes. It has managed the council homes since 2005 but is keen to shore up its PR team as it embarks on the improvement programme, which gets under way next month.
The head of comms role has been taken up by Doncaster Council PR and marketing senior executive James Turner. The firm has been further bolstered by the addition of two more PROs to take the team to six-strong.
Turner said: ‘This is a large- scale project that will significantly improve life for families in Doncaster. But is will also mean a period of disruption, so it is vital that we get the communication right.’
He added that he plans to promote the work to a national housing and local government audience, aiming for coverage in publications such as the weekly trade title Inside Housing. The frequency of the tenants’ newsletter will also be stepped up to ensure local residents are kept in the loop.
Turner, who reports to St Leger CEO Martin Musgrave, said the improved PR operation would help the firm meet potential comms challenges around further investment in social and affordable housing, which is a top priority of Gordon Brown’s Government.
