Midlanders being driven to drink

Superbrands, the annual survey of the UK's top brands, was released last week - and it will make good reading for Microsoft, which winged its way to the top of the 500-strong list.

The survey will also make interesting reading for anyone promoting alcohol in the Midlands. According to the chart, citizens of Birmingham, Bromsgrove and West Bromwich are a great deal more likely to reach for the stronger stuff on their weekly supermarket trip.

In fact, spirits rate 20-50 places higher than the national average, while beer sales move the other way.

Which just leaves one question - what is it about the Midlands that drives people to whiskey and vodka? Answers on a Spaghetti Junction-shaped postcard.
