Sacha Polverini will work primarily out of Barclays’ Brussels office, focusing on policy and regulatory developments in the European Union. The move comes as the banking industry claims to be sinking in a sea of red tape and regulatory restriction.
Polverini said he would look ‘to promote a more efficient financial services market and better regulation for both the banking industry and the consumers’.
Polverini is currently European MD of government and regulatory affairs at Genworth Financial Mortgage Insurance. He was previously head of parliamentary and external affairs at the European Mortgage Federation. He will now report to Barclays group director of public policy and sustainability Christine Farnish.
The bank’s head of public policy strategy David Thompson recently left this year to become director of public affairs at the Chartered Insurance Institute.
